Lowest Price The Great Margarita Book: A Handbook with Recipes
I totally disagree about the negative reviews of this book - In its purest form a margarita is simply three ingredients (4 if you include the ice and 5 with the salt) and the authors variations to me are from someone who is skilled in bringing the purist from to the art of an original margarita. Being a displaced Texan I have strived to find the ultimate margarita and in my research which was helped a great deal by this book is to share with my friends the perfect margarita. The idea of using pre made sweet mixes is an absolute turn off and just a cheap way of selling the customer a drink. If you want a recipe book with a bunch of silly variations including various fruit then this book (and its not a margarita) is not it but if you want to strive to make the simplest purest margarita in it's true form this book is it. The subtleties in the various ways that each tequila tastes individually and in it's mix with making a margarita is incredible. I for one had too many cheap margaritas until I was suggested by a waitress to try upscale tequila - In a word - incredible - the difference that one tequila to another is the difference that wine snobs take note over various wines. There is a difference!! I challenge anyone to do a taste test with friends - make the margarita the right way and make it with a margarita mix in a bottle. I guarantee if you do it right the original version will win smiles and everyone will swear off the mixes. Quit being duped and quit serving margarita mixes. Low Price Straight Up or On the Rocks: The Story of the American Cocktail
Grimes traces the history of that uniquely American invention, the cocktail, from its origins in colonial times to its current revival. He is particularly entertaining when reviewing extinct drinks -- ever wonder what a shandy is? -- but the storied bartenders and venues are also a pleasure.
The second half of the book is recipes. For these, you're probably better off with a bartender's handbook.
Net -- mix yourself a drink and settle into your favorite armchair for this one.Get more detail about Straight Up or On the Rocks: The Story of the American Cocktail.

Save 10,000 Drinks: How to Turn Your Basement Into the Most Happening Bar in Town!
As an avid home bartender, I frequently find myself answering requests for "Can you make X?" I have several excellent bar tending resources, but I often find they lack recipes for "popular" drinks. This book has it all... finding it can be tricky though, because of the clever (or frustrating) way in which the recipes are organized. The book is divided into 20 or so major sections, such as "Tall drinks", "Cocktails", and "Shots and Shooters". Some of the major sections refer to a particular ingredient ("Champagne Drinks") while others refer to the way the drink is made ("Depth charges"). The author's stated purpose is that the book be used for browsing and discovering, rather than merely as a reference. I find this to be a pretty ingenious way of breaking things down. The big problem comes into play when you know the name of a drink, but not what's in it. The book lacks a major index by drink name. Rather, the index is broken down by ingredients (e.g., vodka, whiskey, etc.) If you know one of the ingredients (drinks may appear in more than place in the index) then you're okay. But, if you remember having something at your favorite bar but don't know any of the ingredients, then you'll have a harder time finding it. My test was to locate a Manhattan in the book. It doesn't appear in the index under Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Rye, or Vermouth, but only under the "Whiskey" heading.
All in all, I think the book is great, and has just about everything under the sun. It's an excellent addition to any home bar. Only reason not five stars is that the index could be better.Get more detail about 10,000 Drinks: How to Turn Your Basement Into the Most Happening Bar in Town!.

Cheapest The Wines of Spain (Classic Wine Library)
Recently, I conducted a Spanish wine seminar at the wine shop I work at. I used this text and Radford's The New Spain for reference purposes. Both were excellent and irreplaceable.
Radford's book is great for its photography and chapters on each wine area, focusing on history, culture, viticulture, vinification and grape varieties; Jeffs' book offers more nuts and bolts. He organizes the main regions into Catalonia, Aragon, Rioja, The Centre-North, Castilla y Leon, The North, The Levant, the Centre, Extremadura, Andalucia, and The Islands. Within each of the main regions, he looks at the various sub-regions and further breaks it down by detailing average rainfall, altitude at which the vineyards are grown, soil, climate, grape varieties (from major to minor) etc...
If you read Radford's book, you get a broader, more polished picture with history and gorgeous photographs. He too divides Spain into the main regions and then looks at each area in context to the region and history. Radford includes information on viticulture but his focus is on making the area more comprehensive in terms of illustration and overview. Jeffs, without the use of photography (there are plenty of maps though), provides the details that bog down narratives. Radford you can read cover to cover as if exploring each area one-by-one. Jeffs is the book you look for in need of reference. It is more like an almanac. He too provides history and a bit more detail when discussing the bodegas. In Radford you get a few notes on the bodegas in Spain. In Jeffs, he provides more information and more detail.
My one gripe with Jeffs is that when you want to look for a specific DO in the book, like Terra Alta for example, there is no actual page number on the table of contents referring you to the DO. You basically have to go to Catalonia and then search page by page until you find it. Either that or go to the index to find the page numbers which is equally inconvenient. There are also some other typos and little mistakes. The North is listed on the Contents page as being on page 112 when really it is page 197. Small, just little bumpy hassles that need mending. Otherwise this book is full of enough information to make this reference book a must have for wine and Spanish wine lovers.

Cheap The Perfect Cup: A Coffee Lover's Guide To Buying, Brewing, And Tasting
I second the previous reviewer's comment that this book badly needs a second edition. A lot has happened in coffee in the last five years alone, and this book was written more than 15 years ago. It still serves well as a general introduction to coffee, but the information on coffee and espresso preparation should be considered unreliable. Consider instead: Scott Rao's The Professional Barista's Handbook.

Buy Love, Eric & Sanae: Seasonal Vegan Macrobiotic Cuisine
I love the cupcakes in Seed kitchen. I have bought more than 50 for sure. I really love them. I love baking and I've baked for over 10 years. I think I am pretty good. I bought this book because I wanted to do the cupcakes in my house as Seed Kitchen no longer sells the cupcakes in his store. Well, I was really disappointed because I followed exactly the recipe for the cupcakes from this book but it wasn't close at all to the taste in the restaurant. I have followed many recipes in hundreds of books and this is the first one I know there is some ingredients missing. I understand that Chefs want to keep secrets to themselves because they have worked hard for creating their recipes... However, why then selling a book for 30 dollars when you are not telling all the necessary ingredients for the recipes. And please, don't tell me baking is a science and I'm making mistakes because I'm measuring everything. Mathematics is a science and I don't think anyone makes any mistake with calculations like 2+2=4
The recipe is missing something because I've tried to bake the cupcakes many times already and nothing. If Eric answers this, I want to know what is missing or exactly tell me all the brands you use for your cooking. I spent lots of money and I don't want to hear I'm making something wrong.Get more detail about Love, Eric & Sanae: Seasonal Vegan Macrobiotic Cuisine.

Green Tea and Weight Loss - Losing Weight the Natural Way!
===============================================
Green tea weight loss has become a hot topic of discussion in the weight loss and medical circles. The documented positive effects of green tea on losing weight has caused more and more people looking to lose weight to seek out this ancient brew.
However does green tea actually help you to lose weight? Is this all simply hype or is there something real and factual to the stories? Well here are some interesting facts about drinking green tea and weight loss.
Advantages of Drinking Green Tea for Weight Loss
Green tea and boosting your metabolism - Recently the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported its findings on the effect of drinking green tea and weight loss. Researchers found that green tea extract actually increased the metabolism of green tea drinkers dramatically. So much so that in a 24 hour period the average metabolic rate of the green tea drinkers in the studies increased by over 4%. Green tea possesses extremely high levels of catechin polyphenols. These substances actually aid your body in increasing its ability to oxidize fat and speeds up thermo-genesis which is how quickly your body burns off excess fat and calories. This is a critical factor of drinking green tea and weight loss.
Researchers also found that green tea regulates glucose leevels. Green tea helps to keep your blood levels stable after each meal and prevents spikes in insulin. This means less fat is stored after each meal while drinking green tea. This is directly tied to the active ingredients called catechins found in high levels in green tea.
Green tea also reduces your cravings and appetite - In a recent study it was found that green tea extracts caused rats to lose up to 21 percent of their body weight after a week of being injected with green tea extract. These rats were injected daily with the green tea extract. As a result the rats consumed up to 60 percent less food after a week. It's believed that this is tied directly to green tea's ability to regulate blood sugar levels.
Green Tea and Weight Loss - The Bottom Line
Green tea helps you lose weight by increasing your metabolic rate boosting your body's ability to burn excess calories and stored fat. Green tea also regulates your blood sugar levels and suppresses your appetite. Green tea is also a far superior choice to drinking coffee each day. So overall the stories are indeed true in regards to the power of drinking green tea and weight loss.

How to Brew Green Tea ?
==================
Although it's not hard to do, there are a few things to be considered when brewing green tea
Water quality...
Good quality water is essential for making a good cup of green tea. Make sure you're using good water.
Water temperature...
This is where most mistakes are made. Brew your green tea too hot, and your tea will become bitter. The correct temperature does vary depending on the green tea, but for most it is around 165-170 degrees F (73-76 C.)
Proportion of green tea to water...
Most of our green teas are brewed at 1 heaping teaspoon (5 grams) per 8 ounces of water, but this can vary depending on the tea.
Brew time...
Generally, two minutes is all it takes Any longer, and the taste may becomes too bitter. Also, it's very important to NOT stir, shake, or mix the tea.
Allowing the tea room to expand...
This is rather important. Chinese green tea is compact - it needs room to expand. Tea balls do not work well at all. You'll be much better off using a Japanese teapot that was designed with green tea in mind. It is a one time investment of between $30-$100, and will make your life so much easier.
Take a good look at the inside of this green tea teapot to the left, made in Japan. The infuser screen goes all the way around the inside of the teapot, allowing the tea leaves to expand fully. This is the best kind to use. These teapots are rather small, about the size of a grapefruit, and usually hold 8-13 ounces or so.

Bordeaux Best Quality
Although it starts out well, promising profound insights into the oenophile, Wilberforce, this book devolves into a half-hearted morality tale on alcoholism, but then veers into the utter self-absorption of the main character. Add in the allusions to plot points never explored, and I felt that there was another book, somewhere, that might answer all of the questions raised, but never addressed...

It has a very appetizing cover photo. Brown Ale tends to be a misunderstood style these days, and this book's clarification of its history and present state is a relief. One highlight for me was the proposal of separating the American style of brown ale into the hopped-up Texas-style and then American-style brown ale, which is demonstrated by analyzing a cross-section of samples from across the country. The history goes way back, further than you might guess, and the explanation of malting and brewing techniques from early to modern times is enlightening. This book was extremely disappointing. I bought it expecting it to talk about how to make cordials, instead it teaches how to mix alcohol and syrup. If you are interested in learning how to begin making cordials or in gaining new ideas or techniques, look elsewhere. Discount Women of the Vine: Inside the World of Women Who Make, Taste, and Enjoy Wine
I did enjoy reading this book and hearing the backstories behind the talented, driven women in the wine industry. The stories were quite inspirational. Undoubtedly there was a great deal more suffering than was portrayed in the stories in the book. These women are the survivors of a very tough era for women in this industry and have earned their stripes through talent and hard work.
I did find the informality of the writing style distracting. Regarding one profile in particular the subject is probably more intelligent than my initial impression. But this initial impression was probably created by the writer's style.
Putting that complaint aside, I would call this recommended reading for anyone who wants to have a well rounded view of wine and winemaking. And from a marketing standpoint it is thought provoking that marketing a wine successfully means making the product appealing to women as well as men.Get more detail about Women of the Vine: Inside the World of Women Who Make, Taste, and Enjoy Wine.

Shop For Bavarian Lager: Beerhall Helles History, Brewing Techniques, Recipes (Classic Beer Style Series, 17.)
The various books in the Classic Beer Style series are as mixed of a bag as their subjects. While each makes an effort to provide a bit of a history lesson, some technical background and a few recipes for the homebrewer, each author seems to have been pretty much left to work out the details. As a result, some examples got lost by being muddled with too much history, too many technical details or recipes that are at the extremes of the complexity scale.
Dornbusch managed to get a great balance of the three in this book, and he presents it in a style that shows that he downright enjoys his subject. The result is a book that, from a homebrewer's standpoint, is actually fun to read. Oz Clarke's Bordeaux: The Wines, the Vineyards, the Winemakers Best Quality
This is a very enjoyable book to leaf through, filled with a variety of photographs along with many interesting sidebars & lists of wines to sample; however, because the focus is on Clarke's love affair with the Bordeaux region & its wines, & because much of the text assumes knowledge of complex subject matter that many readers will not have, it's not necessarily a good primer for those who are just beginning to make their way through the maze of Bordeaux wines. Look to Stephen Brook's "The Complete Bordeaux" for that.
A couple of other caveats: Clarke could have used a better editor as many sentences ramble on to the point of incomprehension. And while the book is filled with gorgeous photographs, I would like to have seen fewer photos in which the author appears. Do we really need to see Oz Clarke getting a facial in a Bordeaux spa?
Despite these quibbles, "Oz Clarke's Bordeaux" is a fascinatingly eclectic book that any Bordeaux enthusiast would do well to have on their shelf. I bought a copy through an Amazon reseller for a few dollars - a steal at that price.Get more detail about Oz Clarke's Bordeaux: The Wines, the Vineyards, the Winemakers.

Complete World Bartender Guide Order Now

I purchased this book mainly for a wider array of recipes, however, I was a bit disappointed with its contents. Although it has more than 2,400 drinks included, it boasts more old-fashioned type of drink, it did not even include a White Russian! Also, some of the recipes I did not agree with because they have evolved over time. I would not recommend it as a ready-reference for bar personnel since it is too out-dated for today's drinking crowd. Get more detail about Complete World Bartender Guide.

Smoothies!: 75 Refreshing Recipes Including Cherry Delight, Berry Dazzler & Banana Breakfast Decide Now
Don't you love it when someone doesn't insist on being a purist? A purist defines "smoothies" as drinks made by "blending the fruit, the whole fruit, and nothing but the fruit" (9). However, Stella Murphy has "never been one for sticking to the rules" and makes her smoothies with juices, dairy products, and sorbet and ice cream, and, of course, just the fruit itself.
This is one of those recipe books (can't call it a cookbook because no cooking goes on) totally unnecessary but absolutely essential for a wonderful diversion on a hot summer afternoon or actually any time of day, or any season (translation: any time).
Here are a few examples to startle your senses of sight, taste, touch:
Pure fruit: Cherry Delight with an apple, pear, and cherries;
Fruit and Vegetable Smoothies: Berry Dazzler with cranberries, blueberries, and pear juice, Breakfast Bracer with pink grapefruit, mango, and banana, Scarlet Woman (intriguing!) with tomatoes, basil, scallions, bell pepper;
Real Smoothie blends: Yogurt Vanilla Velvet with yogurt, vanilla extract, honey and lemon juice (yum), Carrot Avocado Cleanser with carrots, bean sprouts, plain yougurt;
Supercharged Smoothies: Apricot and Date Booster: apple juice, apricots, dates, fig, plain yogurt, wheat germ, or how about Chamomile Calm with cold chamomile tea and papaya; and last,
Indulge: Coconut Conspiracy with coconut milk, chocolate sauce and banana, or Coffee Compulsion with custard, espresso, and caramel syrup.
Did I mention that the book comes in a fold-open-flat, 7 1/2" by 5 1/2 " spiral binder? There is a photo with every recipe, and for most recipes, ingredients are readily available. Of course, all recipe books call for unusual items, but I just skip those. If you live in a large city with specialty stores, then you are good to go.
With 75 refreshing recipes to tempt your fancy, "Smoothies" is definitely a fun and essential recipe book. Highly recommended!Get more detail about Smoothies!: 75 Refreshing Recipes Including Cherry Delight, Berry Dazzler & Banana Breakfast.

Man Walks into a Pub: A Sociable History of Beer Right now
Wow, so many things I never knew about beer. From it's medieval beginnings to British pubs opening in bombed out buildings during the Blitz to the buy outs, conglomerations and watering down in the tail end of the 20th century. Peter Brown tells the tale as only an enthusiastic beer drinker (as opposed to a beer enthusiast) could tell it. I took a break from my labors of searching for decent beer during the 90's, I emerged in the 21st century to find a world filled with world class beers brewed in the "neighborhood". That was in Texas, Oh forget about Wisconsin. Texas knows beer, while home to only 5% of the population it consumes 20% of the nation's beer. Even their Michelob is better than yours.. Now that I live in St Paul I realize that this is the state of American beer. High quality pushed pints brewed in the basement of the pub you're in, bottled beers brewed right down the street. Enjoy the Renaissance people, crack open one of your favorites, crack open this book and appreciate what a long journey it was to your glass.. The only down side? No "man walks into a pub" jokes..Get more detail about Man Walks into a Pub: A Sociable History of Beer.

Low Price Romanee Conti
Romanee Conti, the wine, is a myth. Most wine lovers have never drunk it and will probably never have the chance to drink it. 6,000 bottles only are produced annually and sold at such a high price that it is really not affordable to most of us. This is not a sufficient reason not to be fascinated by the history of the wine and not to read Romanee Conti, the book. Richard Olney describes absolutely everything you want to know about the Domaine, the vineyards and the wine. Of course, nobody can expect to remember all the details, which are given by Olney. This is not the point of the book. Since the Middle Age, a small piece of land in Burgundy has constantly produced one of the best wines on earth. Olney introduces the reader to the myth. This is a masterpiece that all wine enthusiasts should have in their library. Dreaming and discovering small things about wine is a pleasure for those who love wines. Imagine that one day you have the opportunity to drink a glass of Romanee Conti. You will then be more than happy to have read this book!Get more detail about Romanee Conti.
