This book is definitely biased toward more "traditional" methods of brewing as the author is older and from England where the noble hops seem to reign and everything he says does not fully fit into the context of American micro or craft brewers. So if you don't know about the many wonderful beers made in America that push the boundaries of flavor and balance, this book isn't for you unless you really really like specific data on brewing. This is a great reference resource on the hard data of brewing up until this book was published and can help more knowledgeable brewers expand their knowledge base, but this is not for the home-brewer necessarily.Get more detail about Beer: Tap into the Art and Science of Brewing.

Lowest Price reFresh: Contemporary Vegan Recipes From the Award Winning Fresh Restaurants
Great recipe's! I have tried the Fresh Burgers, and they are really delicious. Worth the extra effort of preparing all the ingredients. I have my eye on several others, and as soon as I complete my shopping list and find all the ingredients, we'll be back in the kitchen. I would change the book a little...add the nutritional facts and there are a few recipe's you have to use your own judgement, ie: oven temps and times. I am a very methodical and exact thinker and need specific instructions with any task...so these are important to me.Get more detail about reFresh: Contemporary Vegan Recipes From the Award Winning Fresh Restaurants.

Save Living in a Foreign Language: A Memoir of Food, Wine, and Love in Italy

Michael Tucker paints a vivid word picture of an exploration of Italy through food. Spending so much time seeing the world through his eyes... Well, I don't plan to invite him over to my house any time soon and I don't want to talk philosophy or politics with him. But food; man-o-man can he talk about food! Reading this book I tasted the dishes, I met and grew to love the neighbors, and it's convinced me that tasting my way across Italy should be at the top of my "Bucket List".Get more detail about Living in a Foreign Language: A Memoir of Food, Wine, and Love in Italy.

Discount The Homebrewers' Recipe Guide: More than 175 original beer recipes including magnificent pale ales, ambers, stouts, lagers, and seasonal brews, plus tips from the master brewers
This book has some really good recipes in it. I've tried only a few, but plan on doing a lot more in the future. The problem with this book is that I got it when I first started brewing. I wasn't looking for a step by step (I've got another book for that), but I was wanting a little more guidance in the individual recipes. They rarely (if at all) give you the amounts of water to use in different stages of brewing. Another problem is that the gravity predictions are WAY off. For example, the Oak Leaf Brown Ale on p. 43. The recipe calls for almost 8 lbs malt extract and 1 lb brown sugar. They say the OG should be around 1.044. I haven't even tried this recipe, but I can tell you there's no way that in a 5 gallon batch of beer that with that much malt and sugar you're going to have an OG that low. This was confirmed by both the local brew shop (who after I brought this to his attention pulled this book from his shelves and is contacting the publisher) and the brewing group I belong to.
My other problem with the book is that it really should be titled "The Homebrewer's Extract Recipe Guide." Almost all of the recipes in here are extract so if you want to brew all-grain, you have to modify them. Not a huge problem (it's very easy to convert the recipe), but with how generic the instructions are, it's clearly not targeted for a beginning brewer. I don't know many experienced brewers that don't brew all grain.
Don't get me wrong, this book is a great place to start with recipes, but be ready to modify them to get something really good.Get more detail about The Homebrewers' Recipe Guide: More than 175 original beer recipes including magnificent pale ales, ambers, stouts, lagers, and seasonal brews, plus tips from the master brewers.

Cheapest Oldman's Guide to Outsmarting Wine: 108 Ingenious Shortcuts to Navigate the World of Wine with Confidence and Style
"Oldman's guide to outsmarting wine" is one of the better "novice" guides to understanding wine. I put "novice" in quotes because this book is great for novices, yet would also be informative for intermediate level wine fanatics. Everything from pronunciation (so you don't sound like a jerk when you are expressing your new knowledge!), to detailed notes on wine regions.
Given the complexity of the topic, I don't believe you could write a much better intro guide to wine. I've read it cover-to-cover and now use it as a reference guide due to it's accessible organized layout.
Paired with Windows of the World by Kevin Zraly, you will be armed with more wine knowledge than most (non-wine-industry) people need (or want!) to know.....Get more detail about Oldman's Guide to Outsmarting Wine: 108 Ingenious Shortcuts to Navigate the World of Wine with Confidence and Style.

Cheap The Wine Maker's Answer Book (Answer Book (Storey))
If you make your own wine, or have a small winery you should probably own this book. It is a wealth of information on just about everything there is to know or do with winemaking.
Even though it is like a reference on issues and answers, you can read through it to get a perspective on where everything is. This will be a go to book for me when I'm not sure what's going on and I'm glad I have it.Get more detail about The Wine Maker's Answer Book (Answer Book (Storey)).

Buying Luscious Liqueurs: 50 Recipes for Sublime and Spirited Infusions to Sip and Savor
Lots of the recipes are good, or okay. I'm not thrilled with a lot more. Vanilla rum and limencello delicious, but the blood orange not so good. A lot of it has to do with personal taste. I'm not crazy about certain herbs in with my citrus. It's a good point of departure, making you think of your own ideas. Do that. Maybe i've been infusing too long on my own and by the time I bought the book, i was already there or beyond. Purchase The Book of Tea
Back in the sixties (which happened in the seventies) this book was a cult classic. Everyone in Berkeley had a brick & board book case with Steal This Book, and Kahlil Gibran, and Mao, and Ferlingetti, and the Tuttle edition of this book.
Tuttle bound it in hand made washi, and slid it into a special little box-cover. It had the look and the feel of a special precious gift. The book itself was art.
It is still a special precious gift. It is the gift of insight into Japan, and esthetics, and Tea, and Art, and Xenophobia, and most of all into yourself. This cheap little book has the power to shine a light into a blind spot within your mind. It will change your prospective, and it will teach you that prospective is everything.
In this most egocentric, self-referential, radio talk-show, don't-think-tank, time in our history,it would be well for us to read this book again. Give it to someone you love. Read it for someone you don't yet love.

Where To Buy Vintage Cocktails
I couldn't have been more thrilled with this book. I received it as a Christmas gift & everyone spent all day flipping through the pages. The photographs are beautiful & the font used to write the recipes is super fun & colourful. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good classic cocktail. It's like a children's picture book for adults! My friends all love it as well, & I've already made a few of the drinks inside. The recipes are dead on, classic, & wonderful. Belongs on the coffee table - you won't want to put it away.Get more detail about Vintage Cocktails.

Shop For The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wine Basics
I know very little about wine and am looking to learn more. This book was a good place to start. The description of how wine is made and the "big" wine varieties were described. The section about pairings was great! I had always heard "red with red" but the section explained so much more about the hows and whys of pairing food and wine. The ideas for hosting a wine tasting were great. The one thing I wished it had (though I understand why it didn't) was a bit more explantion of tastes of the types of wines. It did clearly explain what the taste is of those red wines that feels like there is cotton coating my tongue, which will help me a great deal as I look to try new types of wines.Get more detail about The Complete Idiot's Guide to Wine Basics.

The Juiceman's Power of Juicing: Delicious Juice Recipes for Energy, Health, Weight Loss, and Relief from Scores of Common Ailments
I bought a juicer and also this book to get me started. Another review mentioned that the recipes are too simple, and I agree that most have only a couple/few ingredients, but I find them helpful for giving proportions that taste good. At the beginning, I had no idea how much cucumber or celery to juice with tomatoes, for example, to end up with something tasty. Now that I juice all the time and feel like I know more what I'm doing, I may vary the amounts of some ingredients according to how large the vegetable or fruit is, and according to my tastes. The book is also a good place to have nutrition facts close at hand with recipes and other information. I'm glad I bought it!Get more detail about The Juiceman's Power of Juicing: Delicious Juice Recipes for Energy, Health, Weight Loss, and Relief from Scores of Common Ailments.
