Having vacationed at some of the inns featured in the book, I have enjoyed cooking recipes that take me back to such pleasurable memories! I am giving this book to two of my friends that love to cook. The friend that gave me the book for my birthday, did not purchase one for herself. I will gladly make sure she gets one! Shop For Bavarian Lager: Beerhall Helles History, Brewing Techniques, Recipes (Classic Beer Style Series, 17.)

The various books in the Classic Beer Style series are as mixed of a bag as their subjects. While each makes an effort to provide a bit of a history lesson, some technical background and a few recipes for the homebrewer, each author seems to have been pretty much left to work out the details. As a result, some examples got lost by being muddled with too much history, too many technical details or recipes that are at the extremes of the complexity scale.

Dornbusch managed to get a great balance of the three in this book, and he presents it in a style that shows that he downright enjoys his subject. The result is a book that, from a homebrewer's standpoint, is actually fun to read. But most importantly, you can make some pretty good brews from his recipes.Get more detail about Bavarian Lager: Beerhall Helles History, Brewing Techniques, Recipes (Classic Beer Style Series, 17.).

Wines of Baja California: Touring and Tasting Mexico's Undiscovered Treasures Top Quality

Here's another wine region which receives little attention in the typical wine books: an examination of Mexican wines - the first published in English. From a survey of the oldest winery in Baja California to newer ones springing up today, each winery receives a description review of products and size, and plenty of historical background. Tasting notes, reviews of Baja grapes and wine events, and supplemental travel details on accommodations and restaurants for those intending a visit make WINES OF BAJA CALIFORNIA: TOURING AND TASTING MEXICO'S UNDISCOVERED TREASURES a winner.

Frozen Drinks: With or Without the Buzz This instant

This book was not helpful to me at all. While I expected a little work, I didnt expect to be the Emeril of Frozen drinks while making them. The recipes are very complicated and many of them do NOT have listed how to put alcohol in them. So, if you want to spend tons of time making a drink and you do not drink alcohol, this book will be perfect for you. Mine is now just a book I sat out when I had a frozen drink party!Get more detail about Frozen Drinks: With or Without the Buzz.

Oz Clarke's Bordeaux: The Wines, the Vineyards, the Winemakers Best Quality

This is a very enjoyable book to leaf through, filled with a variety of photographs along with many interesting sidebars & lists of wines to sample; however, because the focus is on Clarke's love affair with the Bordeaux region & its wines, & because much of the text assumes knowledge of complex subject matter that many readers will not have, it's not necessarily a good primer for those who are just beginning to make their way through the maze of Bordeaux wines. Look to Stephen Brook's "The Complete Bordeaux" for that.

A couple of other caveats: Clarke could have used a better editor as many sentences ramble on to the point of incomprehension. And while the book is filled with gorgeous photographs, I would like to have seen fewer photos in which the author appears. Do we really need to see Oz Clarke getting a facial in a Bordeaux spa?

Despite these quibbles, "Oz Clarke's Bordeaux" is a fascinatingly eclectic book that any Bordeaux enthusiast would do well to have on their shelf. I bought a copy through an Amazon reseller for a few dollars - a steal at that price.Get more detail about Oz Clarke's Bordeaux: The Wines, the Vineyards, the Winemakers.

Complete World Bartender Guide Order Now

I purchased this book mainly for a wider array of recipes, however, I was a bit disappointed with its contents. Although it has more than 2,400 drinks included, it boasts more old-fashioned type of drink, it did not even include a White Russian! Also, some of the recipes I did not agree with because they have evolved over time. I would not recommend it as a ready-reference for bar personnel since it is too out-dated for today's drinking crowd. Get more detail about Complete World Bartender Guide.

Smoothies!: 75 Refreshing Recipes Including Cherry Delight, Berry Dazzler & Banana Breakfast Decide Now

Don't you love it when someone doesn't insist on being a purist? A purist defines "smoothies" as drinks made by "blending the fruit, the whole fruit, and nothing but the fruit" (9). However, Stella Murphy has "never been one for sticking to the rules" and makes her smoothies with juices, dairy products, and sorbet and ice cream, and, of course, just the fruit itself.

This is one of those recipe books (can't call it a cookbook because no cooking goes on) totally unnecessary but absolutely essential for a wonderful diversion on a hot summer afternoon or actually any time of day, or any season (translation: any time).

Here are a few examples to startle your senses of sight, taste, touch:

Pure fruit: Cherry Delight with an apple, pear, and cherries;

Fruit and Vegetable Smoothies: Berry Dazzler with cranberries, blueberries, and pear juice, Breakfast Bracer with pink grapefruit, mango, and banana, Scarlet Woman (intriguing!) with tomatoes, basil, scallions, bell pepper;

Real Smoothie blends: Yogurt Vanilla Velvet with yogurt, vanilla extract, honey and lemon juice (yum), Carrot Avocado Cleanser with carrots, bean sprouts, plain yougurt;

Supercharged Smoothies: Apricot and Date Booster: apple juice, apricots, dates, fig, plain yogurt, wheat germ, or how about Chamomile Calm with cold chamomile tea and papaya; and last,

Indulge: Coconut Conspiracy with coconut milk, chocolate sauce and banana, or Coffee Compulsion with custard, espresso, and caramel syrup.

Did I mention that the book comes in a fold-open-flat, 7 1/2" by 5 1/2 " spiral binder? There is a photo with every recipe, and for most recipes, ingredients are readily available. Of course, all recipe books call for unusual items, but I just skip those. If you live in a large city with specialty stores, then you are good to go.

With 75 refreshing recipes to tempt your fancy, "Smoothies" is definitely a fun and essential recipe book. Highly recommended!Get more detail about Smoothies!: 75 Refreshing Recipes Including Cherry Delight, Berry Dazzler & Banana Breakfast.

Man Walks into a Pub: A Sociable History of Beer Right now

Wow, so many things I never knew about beer. From it's medieval beginnings to British pubs opening in bombed out buildings during the Blitz to the buy outs, conglomerations and watering down in the tail end of the 20th century. Peter Brown tells the tale as only an enthusiastic beer drinker (as opposed to a beer enthusiast) could tell it. I took a break from my labors of searching for decent beer during the 90's, I emerged in the 21st century to find a world filled with world class beers brewed in the "neighborhood". That was in Texas, Oh forget about Wisconsin. Texas knows beer, while home to only 5% of the population it consumes 20% of the nation's beer. Even their Michelob is better than yours.. Now that I live in St Paul I realize that this is the state of American beer. High quality pushed pints brewed in the basement of the pub you're in, bottled beers brewed right down the street. Enjoy the Renaissance people, crack open one of your favorites, crack open this book and appreciate what a long journey it was to your glass.. The only down side? No "man walks into a pub" jokes..Get more detail about Man Walks into a Pub: A Sociable History of Beer.

Low Price Romanee Conti

Romanee Conti, the wine, is a myth. Most wine lovers have never drunk it and will probably never have the chance to drink it. 6,000 bottles only are produced annually and sold at such a high price that it is really not affordable to most of us. This is not a sufficient reason not to be fascinated by the history of the wine and not to read Romanee Conti, the book. Richard Olney describes absolutely everything you want to know about the Domaine, the vineyards and the wine. Of course, nobody can expect to remember all the details, which are given by Olney. This is not the point of the book. Since the Middle Age, a small piece of land in Burgundy has constantly produced one of the best wines on earth. Olney introduces the reader to the myth. This is a masterpiece that all wine enthusiasts should have in their library. Dreaming and discovering small things about wine is a pleasure for those who love wines. Imagine that one day you have the opportunity to drink a glass of Romanee Conti. You will then be more than happy to have read this book!Get more detail about Romanee Conti.
