Hospitality Manager's Guide to Wines, Beers and Spirits

This book by Albert W.A. Schmid is full of interesting, historical details regarding the history of wines, beers and spirits. His Louisville roots are evident when one reads his sections on Kentucky Bourbon. Bourbon drinkers will drool! Wines are segmented "by the grape" which makes understanding the large variety of wineries and varietals very easy and simple. This book gives an excellent overview of wines, beers and spirits -- from the way they are produced to the myriad of ways they can be paired with your favorite foods!Get more detail about Hospitality Manager's Guide to Wines, Beers and Spirits.

Making Pure Corn Whiskey: A Professional Guide For Amateur And Micro Distillers Top Quality

This compendium explains in simple prose what several other books I have read on the subject failed to demystify; the why and how of alcohol distillation, for beverage or fuel use. Most treatises I have read were heavy on theory and generality, and short on specifics. Thsi books answers the questions.Get more detail about Making Pure Corn Whiskey: A Professional Guide For Amateur And Micro Distillers.

Wine Country Cooking This instant

I don't know where to begin with how fantastic the recipes are in this cookbook. It's one of the best I have purchased in years. I have only made a few recipes so far and my mouth waters with anticipation to make another. Weir uses simple ingredients to put new twists on rustic dishes. I'm hoping to try out almost every single recipe in the book!Get more detail about Wine Country Cooking.

The New France: A Complete Guide to Contemporary French Wine (Mitchell Beazley Wine Guides) Immediately

An excellent book that I had seen at a friends. Ideal for those like me interested in French wine. A different approach than some similar books where the author brings to life the personalities involved.
It arrived promptly and well packaged so many thanks for that.
One thing I would mention are your delivery charges. I consider them high.
I have also bought CDs from you with the same comment.

You should be aware that there are others 'in the marketplace' who offer free delivery. So beware as you may lose me and others because of this and this only.

The Sake Handbook Best Quality

The first 1/3 of this book is rather interesting and does a decent job describing the history of and labor/love required to make Sake, but 2/3'rds of this book is a rather dry description of specific types of Sake and recommended Sushi bars in Japan.

I was really wanting more of the first 1/3 of the book since I'm have no plans of traveling to Japan on a Sushi-tasting junket anytime soon.Get more detail about The Sake Handbook.

General Viticulture Get it now!

The blurb for this textbook on viticulture touted that it was now updated and revised. The original was from 1962 and the 'new' revision is from 1974. This book is also limited in scope to growing grapes in California, focuses on large scale industrial growers, and is illustrated by black and white photos. Having griped about all this, the book is still nevertheless useful in terms of its detailed explanation of grape stock, stages of growth, pruning, trellis types, diseases, soil, irrigation, and fertilizing. It would be a terrific if the University of California press came out with a truly 'new' revision that recognized the changes to viticulture in the United States over the last THIRTY years. Even a non-professional who drinks much wine knows that the wine industry has grown beyond the borders of California and that it has been moving toward sustainability and organic farming of which there is barely a sentence in this book.Get more detail about General Viticulture.

World Whiskey Order Now

This is an outstanding book for the whisky lover. Primarily touching on Scotch Whiskies, the book also discusses Irish, Rye, Bourbon, Tennessee, Asian, and boutique brands.

The whiskies are arranged alphabetically with gorgeous pictures of the bottles of each whisky a several paragraph to full page description of the distillery from which the whisky originates (primarily for single malts). There are also short but concise and well written tasting notes for each whisky including information such as alcohol by volume.

Most every single brand, blend, or single malt I could think of is represented with only a few omissions, most certainly due to certain blends that may have been released only very recently.

There are also full color articles in the book expanding on topics of interest to the whisky lover from cask making to glass selection, peat harvesting, and more.

This is a wonderful book. It is a well written and beautiful book on whisky. The pages are all full color glossy on heavy bond paper. This hardbound is a definite addition for your home library or private bar. Get more detail about World Whiskey.

The Illustrated Winespeak: Ronald Searle's Wicked World of Winetasting Decide Now

The Molesworth books have made many in my family into firm Ronald Searle fans. Of course, we are shameless anglophiles, and probably most people would find Molesworth much less funny than we do. Anyhow, outside the relatively innocent confines of St. Custard's, Mr. Searle can get too raunchy for my taste. Winespeak is a good example of this. Well, there's "wicked" right in the title, so I was just dumb to order it.Get more detail about The Illustrated Winespeak: Ronald Searle's Wicked World of Winetasting.

The Beer Guide Right now

This ultra-simple directory of all beers you're likely to find for sale in North America (both foreign and domestic) has a typical beer-snob bias toward heavy, sweet and strong top-fermented brews with a corresponding dismissal of light lagers and pilsners. You already know what's in here, so why do we need yet another reviewer telling us that Chimay Blue is perfect and Budweiser is plonk?

The 1-to-5 star rating system is entirely subjective, of course, and there's not a hint of text in here about prices, places to buy, glassware, or the brewing process. Also, keep in mind that this is a beer guide, not a pub guide. Generally, a waste of money.

Spend a little more and buy THE BEER BOOK, which is truly an excellent guide and a joy to browse.Get more detail about The Beer Guide.

Save Wine Marketing: A Practical Guide

Let me begin by clarifying that I am a marketing professional with hands on experience in many aspects of tactical and strategic marketing. I purchased four books on wine marketing and public relations to obtain a better understanding of the wine industry and how it markets.

I rate this book 3.4. It provides a decent overview of the wine industry and how it conducts business. Written in the style of a classic student text, citing numerous studies, it covers all aspects of wine marketing. I found it most useful for its updated industry statistics on consumption per capita in various countries and the modern trends in the global wine industry. It also provides the perspective that wine is an experiential product, opening up the opportunity to create a special moment in any of a variety of wine marketing programs.

I'd consider this wine marketing 101, meaning I think it provides a useful overview of marketing with useful insights, but not a detailed guide one could use by itself as a blueprint for creating a wine marketing program. But, then I don't think any of the other texts really do that either. It is a useful reference and does provide both insights and value.

I'd recommend this for the wine business novice seeking to understand the wine market.

Discount Regional Greek Cooking

I bought this book for my fiancé since he's recently begun a love affair with Greek food. The recipes are wonderful, but we're both visual learners and the lack of pictures didn't make us super thrilled. I wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars, I wouldn't take off a whole star just for that -- the book certainly makes up for it in other ways. I will possibly purchase another cookbook with more of a visual bent, just to supplement this one.Get more detail about Regional Greek Cooking.

Cheapest God in a Cup: The Obsessive Quest for the Perfect Coffee

I am just starting to get into specialty coffee, so this was the perfect book to me. Learning about the trips to origin and getting a somewhat behind-the-scenes and in-depth look into the specialty coffee world was awesome. The author interviewed everyone that I was interested in, and more. Like I said, the book is very easy to read, and I was engaged in the book the whole time.Get more detail about God in a Cup: The Obsessive Quest for the Perfect Coffee.
