This is a great book. If you want lattes, cappuccino's, espresso's, this is the book for you. This is not a fancy compodium on these types of beverages but a put together, straight forward book on coffee based drinks. The authors set out to create a one stop shop of recipes for coffee drinkers of all kind, they did just that. This book does not tease, does not antagonize and is simple as it was intended. The recipes are great (but you know what you like-- you can try and tweak them here and there if you wish).
If you want a Book of delicious recipes to warm your body, and not a Jungle of snobbery you have to decipher to get a cup of heaven, then this book is for you. Easy and practical. Straight to the point. All books should be so generous.

I bought this book for a recent tip to Rome,hoping to eat a bunch of really amazing meals. I abandoned it at the hotel when I left. Maybe someone else will have a good experience with it, but I will never use it again, and was glad to be rid of the weight before I moved on. If you want great food experiences in Rome, they are easy to find without this book. Just stay away from the tourist restaurants. The easiest way to do this is walk down side streets and find a busy restaurant. Look at a menu. Listen carefully. Do you hear a lot of Italian? Is it really busy? I bet it is worth the wait to get a table, or worth making a reservation for tomorrow.

We ate at about 15 of the restaurants that were recommended, and about 15 that we just stumbled upon, or were recommended by others. I can't say that the meals from Food Wine Rome were any better, or that the experiences were more memorable. In fact, I can even say that these meals were some of the most boring meals we had in Rome. Even worse were the recommended food shops. Although the writer could make a place sound like a must-visit, the delis, bakeries, cookie shops, etc. were not worth the time spent tracking them down: they really seemed like arbitrary choices, not really any better or more interesting than many other similar places.

If you are looking to eat only the most traditional food in Rome, day after day, this book can help you do it. If you are looking to have an amazing culinary experience every time you eat, with delicious or surprising combination, fresh ideas, or new food experiences, look elsewhere.
