Discount Cappuccino/Espresso: The Book of Beverages (Nitty Gritty Cookbooks)
This is a great book. If you want lattes, cappuccino's, espresso's, this is the book for you. This is not a fancy compodium on these types of beverages but a put together, straight forward book on coffee based drinks. The authors set out to create a one stop shop of recipes for coffee drinkers of all kind, they did just that. This book does not tease, does not antagonize and is simple as it was intended. The recipes are great (but you know what you like-- you can try and tweak them here and there if you wish).
If you want a Book of delicious recipes to warm your body, and not a Jungle of snobbery you have to decipher to get a cup of heaven, then this book is for you. Easy and practical. Straight to the point. All books should be so generous.
Enjoy.Get more detail about Cappuccino/Espresso: The Book of Beverages (Nitty Gritty Cookbooks).

Cheapest Craft of Whiskey Distilling
Practical and prescient, those are the two words that come to mind in describing Bill Owen's new book Craft Whiskey Distilling, published by the American Distilling Institute. Just like his book, How to Build a Small Brewery, Draft Beer in Ten Days, self-published almost thirty years ago, the author seems to anticipate the real-world questions, concerns and confusions of want-to-be craft distillers, most of whom having cut their teeth as home or craft brewers, desire to venture forth into the production of vodka, gin, whiskey, rum, etc. Distilling principles, styles, procedures, equipment, economics, licensing and even a three-year payback scheme called a "Down and Dirty Business Plan" are generously supported by resource lists, websites and recommended reading making this book the best single-stop shopping resource for all those interested in learning more about or diving into Craft Whiskey Distilling. The legendary craft brewing pioneer and father of pumpkin ale has again `lain across the wire' for the rest of us to climb over into the spirits world.Get more detail about Craft of Whiskey Distilling.

Cheap Food Wine Rome (Terrior Guides)
I bought this book for a recent tip to Rome, hoping to eat a bunch of really amazing meals. I abandoned it at the hotel when I left. Maybe someone else will have a good experience with it, but I will never use it again, and was glad to be rid of the weight before I moved on. If you want great food experiences in Rome, they are easy to find without this book. Just stay away from the tourist restaurants. The easiest way to do this is walk down side streets and find a busy restaurant. Look at a menu. Listen carefully. Do you hear a lot of Italian? Is it really busy? I bet it is worth the wait to get a table, or worth making a reservation for tomorrow.
We ate at about 15 of the restaurants that were recommended, and about 15 that we just stumbled upon, or were recommended by others. I can't say that the meals from Food Wine Rome were any better, or that the experiences were more memorable. In fact, I can even say that these meals were some of the most boring meals we had in Rome. Even worse were the recommended food shops. Although the writer could make a place sound like a must-visit, the delis, bakeries, cookie shops, etc. were not worth the time spent tracking them down: they really seemed like arbitrary choices, not really any better or more interesting than many other similar places.
If you are looking to eat only the most traditional food in Rome, day after day, this book can help you do it. If you are looking to have an amazing culinary experience every time you eat, with delicious or surprising combination, fresh ideas, or new food experiences, look elsewhere. Purchase He Said Beer, She Said Wine: Impassioned Food Pairings to Debate and Enjoy: from Burgers to Brie and Beyond
He Said Beer, She Said Wine considers the concurrent history of beer and wine, how each is paired with different dishes, and offers suggestions for specific pairings with foods, including recipes and menus alike. From antiquated rules and why they fail to work with today's different or fresh ingredients to sidebars of wine and beer characteristics and why they work, this is a fine addition to any food and wine collection, going beyond just suggestions to consider the history and culture of beer and wine pairings with food.Get more detail about He Said Beer, She Said Wine: Impassioned Food Pairings to Debate and Enjoy: from Burgers to Brie and Beyond.

Where To Buy The Devil's Cup: A History of the World According to Coffee
I love to travel, am interested in history, and drink more coffee than is probably healthy every day. This book was right up my alley. I've re-read this book more than once and have given it away more times than I can remember. I'm not sure what I enjoyed more, the travel log or the history "asides" given so that you hardly notice you're learning about coffee's rich history and influence on cultures and civilizations. After reading this, you'll wonder what secrets and anecdotes other common-place, everyday items have.Get more detail about The Devil's Cup: A History of the World According to Coffee.

Wine Bar Food: Mediterranean Flavors to Crave with Wines to Match This instant
Three stars is being generous. This book has a good theme, good photography, and a nice, clean design, but in the end it's nothing extraordinary. Maybe good for a beginner, but if you already have a collection of cookbooks at home (and I do), don't spend your money on this book. You'll find that it just duplicates recipes that you already have.Get more detail about Wine Bar Food: Mediterranean Flavors to Crave with Wines to Match.

The Book of Absinthe: A Cultural History Immediately
It's like a PhD candidate's dissertation was written on absinthe. Too dense, boring and rambling for a book on absinthe. There are much better absinthe histories out there that provide the same information with out all the pretension.Get more detail about The Book of Absinthe: A Cultural History.

Love by the Glass: Tasting Notes from a Marriage Get it now!
What a cool couple John and Dottie are. I loved reading about their life long love affair with wine, and each other. I am impressed by how open they are to trying all wine and finding something good in it, and their enthusiasm has made me a little more willing to try what I suspect are overly fruity cabs.
They have great advice for the average wine drinker. It doesn't have to be expensive to taste good! Get more detail about Love by the Glass: Tasting Notes from a Marriage.
